On the shelf

A shelf made from white American ash and simple black brackets installed underneath the monochrome gallery in Craig’s passage adds texture and life to an otherwise flat display. The beautiful lilies and delicious monster leaves in white ceramic vases combined with a pop of gold in the ceramic bunnies echoes the green and gold décor theme throughout the house.

Oh, the drama!

We featured Craig Olckers’ Observatory home in our March 2018 issue and although he has since moved to another temporary home, the décor is equally impressive! A bespoke grey in his new sitting room is the perfect backdrop for a warm, dramatic scheme of luxurious emerald-green with hints of gold. Craig chose not to paint the wall grey all the way to the ceiling to allow for a greater sense of space. A grouping of three coffee tables creates a dynamic aesthetic that can be rearranged according to the situation or Craig’s mood.

Hang loose

Open shelves and hanging utensils free up drawer space in compact kitchens. If you’re keen to recreate Craig’s look at home, take stock of your implements and consider updating any that won’t look good on display; throw out those you don’t use. Then invest in the best you can afford. When it comes to colour and style, follow Craig’s lead and start with utensils in a neutral base, in this case silver. Add personality with a colour or two in silicone spatulas and other accessories such as a kettle and wall clock. Here, the repetition of a palette consisting of acid-green, soft blue and white with wood and yellow in the wall clock and on the shelf creates a coherent scheme.

The jungle effect

Art turns a functional area into a personal space. For Craig, a bathroom is a relaxing oasis and he surrounds himself with plants and greenery as well as his signature touch of glamour – this time in a copper planter. The bold leaf print shower curtain, jade stool and layered sheepskin and sisal mats next to the luxurious Victorian bath create a tranquil space in which you want to linger longer. The narrow shelf above the bath allows Craig to display art, flowers and scented candles without having to drill holes in the tiles for every picture.
