Put a puzzle together

Add oomph to your table setting with six vinyl placemats that can also be put together like a puzzle to form a striking floral motif. The placemats are heat-resistant, so they won’t get damaged by dishes straight out of the oven. You can print your own design, colour and size and order as many as you need (minimum order of six). Lacy days

Celebrate the New Year with a romantic white lace tablecloth – but without having to worry about the possibility of red wine stains. The lace-look vinyl tablecloth in Lizette Botha’s Stellenbosch home can simply be wiped clean with a damp cloth – brilliant! It can be used both indoors and outdoors and is very affordable at just R295. Gorgeous!

Lizette bought the striking cupboard at a second-hand shop in Kalk Bay several years ago; it still boasts its original turquoise paint, albeit peeling in places. It was made by Argentinian piano manufacturer Breyer Y Porfirio and has been adapted and reinforced over the years. One of the mirrors is dated 1950, but no one is sure how old this showstopper really is.

Moroccan flavour

When Chanelle Booysen of Durbanville happened upon this Moroccan design on Facebook, she knew it would make the perfect ‘wallpaper’ for her braai area. As a bonus, she was able to simply cut the 30 x 30cm vinyl sheets into squares or strips and apply them herself. “At that stage, I was so fed up with builders and contractors that I had no desire to hire someone to apply the finish,” she says. The vinyl stickers are steam-, splatter- and heat-resistant – which means they won’t melt from the heat of the fire.

Upon reflection

Mirrors grouped on a wall is still on trend. Heidi van der Westhuizen of Heidi J Design has mixed and matched Perspex mirrors and vinyl stickers mounted on hexagonal blocks to create a striking focal point. The mirrors come in sets of 10, while the vinyl blocks are sold individually (a real bargain from just R20 each!). The wooden blocks are lightweight and can simply be applied with double-sided tape or Velcro Stick On Tape. The blocks can be ordered in any shape, size and design – old paintings and children’s drawings are extremely popular, says Heidi.

At your service

Don’t discard that old tray! Send its measurements to De Waal Art and they’ll print you a vinyl sticker with the design of your choice to fit it. Simply peel away the paper at the back and stick it on – no glue or sealant is required. Tablecloth from Feel Good Interiors; tray art by De Waal Art; other accessories homeowner’s own

A simple statement

Six vinyl tiles (150 x 150mm each) stuck side by side is all that was needed to add detail to an otherwise minimalistic white bathroom. The Delft design is a popular choice – all you do is peel off the back of the tiles and apply them to the wall! And because they’re water-resistant, they’re ideal for the bathroom. What's in a name

When she furnished her twin boys’ nursery, Home contributor Beatrice Moore-Nöthnagel was keen to display their names. “I read in one of Sam Scarborough’s Kids Décor books that children need to develop their own identity from a young age, so it’s a good idea to use their names or initials in their bedroom décor,” says Beatrice. “I wanted to make sure that both of them had their own corner. Large vinyl stickers with their names were the perfect solution – they also brighten up the foot of an ordinary wooden cot. Everyone thinks they’re hand-painted!”

Tip: When it comes to a monochromatic palette such as this one, detail and texture add impact. The muted Dove Grey paint from Dulux provides the perfect backdrop for the white triangles – also vinyl stickers – and creates a contemporary look with the wooden elements and animal décor.

Bathroom beauty

Tired of a boring white look in your bathroom but can’t afford new tiles? Vinyl stickers are a cost-effective way to create a whole new look – without much effort. For Herman and Tiene Fourie of Sandbaai, it was the perfect solution for the tiles above their bathroom basin: Hope vol Hoop’s Pink Splendour vinyl tiles instantly transformed this drab corner! The ‘tiles’ – which are water-resistant and don’t need to be sealed – were laid on top of the existing wall tiles.
