Clean the surface with a damp cloth dipped in lacquer thinners to remove any dirt or grease. Allow to dry completely (wait at least 40 minutes).
Start at one edge of the surface, applying a strip of paint with the 50mm paintbrush in the colour(s) of your choice.
We started with Ishmael’s Eish and while it was still wet, shaded the colours Lively Lizelle and Lebo’s Light into it. You can use the same brush since the three colours should blend lightly.
Now take the wood grain tool and lightly draw it across the top of the wet paint. Bend your wrist up and down so that the wood grain tool rolls forwards and backwards – it’s this movement that creates the pattern. Try to do an entire strip in one motion, without lifting the tool from the surface, for a natural look.
