Having a backup water solution has never been this easy

accreditation

When thinking about water storage solutions, you are probably thinking: too complicated, too expensive, only suited for permanent installations. And yes, there are a range of solutions that vary in complexity, scale and design. But, a simple backup water solution can be very cost-effective, space sensitive, and set up in a way that does not require any structural changes to your home (should you be renting) and can even be taken with you should you move.

Basic solution requirements

For a very basic solution you will require a water storage tank, a suitable foundation and a tap (some formats like our Slimline range are supplied with taps, others require you to fit a 40/20mm reducer to the tank outlet in order to fit a 20mm tap to the tank).

This setup will require you to manually fill the tank with water and retrieve the water using the tap as and when required for use. This is an ideal starter solution as you can start with the basics and gradually add more accessories and components to automate it and ensure you get maximum benefit from it.

The correct size tank

When choosing a tank, take into consideration how much water you need per day and the period you would like the backup water to last. Household water consumption varies from 25 to 150 litres per person per day (depending on what the water is used for).

The correct foundation for your tank

Ensure you have a suitable foundation for your tank – it needs to be sound, level, smooth and at least 100mm wider than the diameter of your tank. Level paving will suffice, or alternatively a concrete plinth can be built.

Convert your backup solution into a pressurized solution

For easy access to your stored water, connect a JoJo booster pump to your JoJo tank with our all-inclusive pump-to-tank connector kit. No additional fittings are required for connection, and this allows you to convert your tank supply into a pressurized solution.

We highly recommend getting a pump cover to protect your pump from the elements and extend its lifespan. Our one-size-fits-all cover is suited for use with our entire range of booster pumps, and can be manufactured in a wide range of colours to match your tank or home.

Automate the filling process

Add a float valve kit to your backup solution for effortless filling with an automatic shut-off. This can be done manually using a hose, or for a more permanent and automated solution you can connect it to your plumbing line.

Note: when tying into your main water supply line, we recommend making use of a licensed plumber or JoJo Installer as you will require additional accessories such as non-return valves to ensure no back pressure to the main supply. Visit the JoJo installers section on our website to find one in your area.

Connect your system to your main water supply line in your home

Upgrade your backup water solution into a fully integrated solution for ease of mind and use. Once you have your tank installed on a proper foundation, added a float valve kit for effortless filling up to a certain level, and installed a pump, all that is left to do is connect the system to your main water supply.

This will require suitable piping, as well as a few extras like gate valves and non-return valves (to ensure no back pressure to the main supply).

Each installation is different, so get in touch with a licensed plumber or JoJo installer to help you take your solution to the next level based on your unique setup and requirements.

Ensure that your stored water is healthy water

By installing a backup water solution, you ensure you always have access to water, but do you have access to healthy water?

Treated municipal water is adequate for household use, but can require additional filtration depending on the quality. If you are unsure of the quality of water, we advise using a filter to remove any potentially harmful contaminants.

Your options include an Undersink or Countertop filter via one tap inside your home for consumption, or alternatively a whole-house filter that is placed outside and filters all the water used in your house. If you don’t want a filter that requires installation and permanent fixtures, the Countertop filter is the filter for you, as it simple screws onto your existing faucet.

Visit www.jojo.co.za for more information on how to secure your water source with JoJo’s water storage solutions, and ensure healthy, great-tasting water for your household with our filtration range.
