It’s that time of the year again to figure out what popped off to the top of the internet culture heap in 2019. We’ve rounded up the best memes of the year to relive this year through social media’s accurate portrait of our times.
“I love mess”
Marie Kondo became a household name in 2019, thanks to the debut of her Netflix show helping her secure the title as queen of organisation.

The standout moment is a snapshot of Kondo saying, “ I love mess.” Apparently, everyone loves mess online – whether it refers to gossip, feuds, scandals, frustrations, or politics, according to TIME.
“Sorry to this man”
Actress and comedian Keke Palmer made this iconic unbothered quote rise to the top when she hilariously failed to identify America’s former vice president Dick Cheney while taking a lie detector test.
It could be used to feign ignorance when embarrassed or to brush past people you’d rather not pay attention to.
“Rise and shine!”
At the end of a tour of her offices, media personality and businesswoman Kylie Jenner opens the door to her daughter Stormi’s playroom and sings “Rise and Shine” as she flips on the light – only to find Stormi already wide awake.

It’s important to note that a camera person was already positioned to film the door opening inside the office, so mystery solved as to the wide-awake baby. It birthed a highly memorable moment, showcasing Jenner’s vocal ability which saw both the creation of remixes and re-enactments.
Fiji water girl
Fiji Girl was possibly the most important presence at this year’s Golden Globes red carpet, according to Refinery29. It was her job to hand out Fiji water bottles to the stars walking the red carpet but she decided to photobomb many of them and serve some killer poses.
The Bird Box

The Netflix film came out at the end of last year, but its legacy lives on in memes. This one became a challenge and shows people attempting to do various things while blindfolded. It got to the point where Netflix had to release a statement asking people to stop, reports Esquire.
Meryl Streep’s scream
Nothing could’ve prepared the world for when Meryl Streep stole the show on Big Little Lies, with a scream that nearly shattered TV screens worldwide.
Momo
By far the one that instilled the greatest gut-wrenching fear in parents, as rumours spread that children were attempting suicide by looking at this horrifying chicken/woman creature. It was dubbed the “Momo Challenge”, but it was later proven to be a hoax.
